On December 11, 2018, New Century International Middle School hosted a Choice Schools and Academies Fair for rising high school freshmen. Over 50 parents and students from New Century International Middle School and John Griffin Middle School attended. Our guests learned about the general application process, heard presentations from each school, then asked questions during informal visits with the school representatives.

The schools represented were: Cross Creek Early College High School; Cumberland International Early College High School; Cumberland Polytechnic High School; Massey Hill Classical High School; South View High School, both International Baccalaureate Academy & Academy of Public Safety & Security; Seventy-First High School, School of the Arts; and Terry Sanford High School, School of Global Studies.

The NCIMS Choice Schools and Academies Fair was a great success, as both parents and students left with a better understanding of the choice school application process and available options for their rising high school freshman!

On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, 6th grade students got to “look at the stars” via a portable, digital STARLAB planetarium in conjunction with the Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center’s West Regional Branch.  The branch has the STARLAB on loan from the State Library of North Carolina, and it is one of four STARLABs that are circulating throughout North Carolina public libraries.

Students were able to explore the stars as they were in the Raleigh area sky that day/night, explore the constellations that were there, and learn about light pollution.  Brittany Newman, YS Librarian I at the West Regional Branch Library of the CCPL&IC, led students on their discovery tour of the stars.

the word Congratulations outlined in bright green.clip art of band instruments and the word BandWe would like to congratulate Mr. Harris, band director, and the students in the Titan band program.  NCIMS had 23 students audition and make the all-county band this year.  This is a significant increase from last year.  To audition, students have to memorize six of their major scales and chromatic.  Then, they have to sight-read, which is where an excerpt of music is placed in front of them that they have never seen before, and they are given 45 seconds to look at it before attempting to play it.  All-county band is very competitive in our county, and it is a great honor to be selected.  Congratulations to our young musicians on this accomplishment!

Fazoli's OrdersIn an effort to make it more manageable for parents to attend Curriculum Night on Thursday, November 15, we are offering take-out plates from Fazoli’s on a pre-order basis.  This will take the dinner pressure off of parents and allow you to join us for this meaningful event.  All proceeds from the dinner sales will go to Reading Rocks.

We will be collecting pre-orders for dinners from November 2, through November 13.  Dinners will be delivered to NCIMS after Curriculum Night on Thursday, November 15.

Families must order and pay for their dinners in advance, then will pick them up at the end of Curriculum night by the front entrance.

CLICK HERE for the Fazoli’s Order Form.
