pink cancer ribbons in form of a shoe with the words "think pink, walk proud" as the soleNew Century will be having it’s first Breast Cancer One Mile Walk on October 5, from 1:50 to 2:30.  Donations are $1.00 per person to participate and everyone is encouraged to wear pink on the 5th.  Donations will be collected in the gym Monday through Friday mornings until 7:15 a.m., and in the cafeteria during all lunches Monday through Thursday.  All donations support the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.  Make your donation and come out and join the fun on Friday.

yellow traffic sign stating "Delayed Opening"Because of numerous road closures, flooding, and hazardous road conditions that still exist, the Cumberland County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday, September 24, 2018. The purpose of the delay is to ensure that bus drivers can safely operate in the daylight to avoid road dangers and to ensure the safe travel of students to school.

There will be no morning Prime Time and school breakfast will not be served.

Important Post-Storm Updates in the Cumberland County Schools:

♦ In the interest of preserving instructional time for students, Wednesday, September 26 will be a full day of school for students who follow the Traditional Calendar. It will no longer be designated an early-release day.

♦ In response to the impact of Hurricane Florence in Cumberland County, the USDA has approved the Cumberland County Schools for Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance, which includes offering school breakfast and lunch to all students district wide at no charge from September 24 through the month of October.

Due to numerous road closures, flooding and hazardous road conditions, Cumberland County Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 20, 2018 and Friday, September 21, 2018 for students.  Primetime will also be closed.  After school activities are cancelled.

Employees will observe optional workdays.

Cumberland County will open seven emergency shelters at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 12, for residents affected by possible flooding and other issues related to Hurricane Florence.

Residents may begin reporting to the following locations at 3 p.m.:
• Kiwanis Recreation Center, 352 Devers Street, Fayetteville
• Mac Williams Middle School, 4644 Clinton Road, Fayetteville
• Pine Forest High School, 525 Andrews Road, Fayetteville
• Seventy-First High School, 6764 Raeford Road, Fayetteville
• Smith Recreation Center, 1520 Slater Ave., Fayetteville
• South View High School, 4184 Elk Road, Hope Mills
• W. T. Brown Elementary School, 2522 Andrews Church Road, Spring Lake

Gray sky with yellow sign announcing Hurricane AheadThe Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is working closely with Cumberland County Emergency Management to monitor the path of Hurricane Florence. Based on weather projections and the State of Emergency issued by the Cumberland County Commissioners, there will be a three-hour early release for students on Wednesday, September 12. CCS’ Prime Time before- and after-school care program will close two hours after schools dismiss. 

The school system will be closed on Thursday, September 13 and Friday, September 14 for all students and staff.

Currently, the projected make-up days are as follows:

  • Traditional Schools – Monday, October 22 & Wednesday, November 21
  • Year-Round Schools, Early College High Schools, & Cumberland Polytechnic High School – Tuesday, November 6 and Wednesday, November 21

The Cumberland County Schools’ Student Services Department invites you to join us on September 16, at the Out of Darkness Fayetteville Area Walk at Festival Park.  The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

Use the following link to join our team  or to make a donation ~ NCIMS Out of the Darkness Team.   All proceeds will be donated to the AFSP.

  • Walk Begins: 2:00 p.m.
  • Ends: 3:45 p.m. (Short ceremony/announcements/raffle)

TEAM NOTES:

  • Wear a purple shirt.
  • Once checked in, meet to the right of the bathrooms.
  • A reminder email will be sent out before the event.
  • Bring own water.
